Cats Protection is a registered charity that is dedicated to the well-fare and if need be, rehoming of cats all over the UK. They find new homes for around 60,000 cats evey year, that is an average of one cat, rehomed every two minutes. And due to their no kill policy, any cats in their care, stay in their care until a new home is found. Cats Protection also assist with neutering and veterinary treatment of thousands of cats every year. This sometimes involves helping with the costs of the treatment. With 30 shelters and 260 smaller branches across the UK they certainly have got their work cut out. The Cats Protection League began back in May 1927 after a meeting had been called at Claxton Hall in London. By 1931 the first Cats Club (now known as branches) were formed in Slough, Ilford and Liverpool and a newsletter (The Cats Mews Sheet) was published. Then in 1934 the newsletter is renamed as 'The Cat'. The first cat clinic and hq were established in 1935 but then in 1978 the charity moved it's headquarters down to Horsham in West Sussex. from then on the charity has come along in leaps and bounds, starting up it's own first mobile neutering clinic and began to microchip the cats in their care. In 1999 the name was changed from 'The Cats Protection League' to just 'Cats Protection'. The main source of the funds needed to look after these cats is donations, and sadly it is something they rely on heavily for every 3, one cat is looked after for the night. 5 will buy a feeding bottle for abandoned kittens. 15 will provide food for a rescued cat for at least a month, whilst 30 will ensure that cat is microchipped so it cannot be lost again and 95 will buy a cat trap to help them catch and neuter feral cats.
